It’s been a long time since the New Orleans Saints were last considered a lock to make the playoffs.

Despite having plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, the team hasn’t been able to get past Drew Brees’ retirement.

Also, Dennis Allen has not particularly lived up to the expectations and standards set during the Sean Payton era.

With that in mind, NFL analyst Adam Rank believes this team could go through a major overhaul if they fail to make the playoffs in 2024 (via Around the NFL).

Truth be told, that’s far from a surprise.

For starters, as much as the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers could compete in the NFC South, the Saints also have the personnel to try and go after the crown.

Also, Derek Carr was fairly disappointing in his first season with the organization.

They took Spencer Rattler late in the NFL Draft and he has reportedly turned a lot of heads during training camp, so he could put pressure on the former Las Vegas Raiders star if things don’t go Carr’s way early in the season.

Allen has struggled as a head coach, and his defensive expertise hasn’t been anywhere to be found.

The Saints have been very patient with this new project despite the need for more success or signs of promise.

But we know how quickly things can change in sports, and this is a results-oriented business, so they’ll have to deliver in 2024.
