Analyst Predicts Surprise QB Decision For Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings need to find a new franchise quarterback.

With Kirk Cousins out of the door, they signed Sam Darnold to a very lucrative deal, albeit a short-term one.

However, most people realize that he’s only a stopgap before they find themselves a guy for the future.

Even if that’s the case, NFL reporter Carmen Vitali believes Darnold is going to be the starter at the beginning of the season.

Talking on Kay Adams’ “Up & Adams” show, she argued that a team doesn’t spend $10 million on a quarterback unless they expect him to start some meaningful games.

More than that, she believes that the coaching staff realizes that whoever they pick might need some time on the sidelines before being ready to play, and any rookie quarterback could benefit from that.

She believes that makes it a perfect situation for J.J. McCarthy, and while some argue that he might not be worth a top-five selection, the Vikings would gladly give up whatever they have to give up to get him if he ends up being their franchise quarterback.

As of now, Kevin O’Connell’s team has the No. 11 and No. 23 selections, and they’re reportedly exploring all avenues to trade up.

They could package those picks to move up to the top five, with the Arizona Cardinals (No. 4) and Los Angeles Chargers (No. 5) as potential accomplices.

Whatever the case, it seems like Darnold is going to get another opportunity to run the show as a starter, at least for a while.
