The NFL head coaching hiring cycle is in full swing, with several teams beginning their interview request process for this offseason.

While high-profile names like Jim Harbaugh, Mike Vrabel, Ben Johnson and Bill Belichick will make headlines as possible targets for teams, one name with previous head coaching experience that could make waves is Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.

Per NFL Network’s Steve Wyche, some believe Morris would be a coach like the Houston Texans’ DeMeco Ryans who can relate to players and develop talent.

“His name is out there,” Wyche. “It may not be out there in big bright lights right now, but watch this throughout this coaching search process.”

The Panthers, Commanders, and Chargers have already reportedly requested to interview Morris, who could only partake in virtual interviews until after the divisional round of the playoffs while his Rams remain in contention for a Super Bowl.

Morris was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for three seasons from 2009-2011, but only mustered one winning season at the helm.

He took over as interim head coach of the Atlanta Falcons in 2020, where he went 4-7, before he became the defensive coordinator for the Rams in 2021.

As Wyche mentioned, Morris isn’t the biggest name on the market right now, but his reputation in the league remains high, as is what he’s produced during his three seasons in Los Angeles with the likes of Aaron Donald and rookies Kobie Turner and Byron Young.

However, it would be unlikely that the Chargers go back to the Rams DC well after the failed Brandon Staley experiment over the past three years.
