Star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is engaged in a standoff with the San Francisco 49ers regarding a potential contract extension, and with just over a month to go before the start of training camp, concern is growing over the situation.

He has one year left on his current contract, and there have been persistent rumors that if the two sides fail to reach an agreement soon enough, he could be traded.

Emmanuel Acho said on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak” that Aiyuk should demand at least a penny more than the $30 million a year Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions will earn on the extension he recently got.

The wide receiver market in the NFL has gone through the roof, and it will make it difficult for the 49ers to keep their talented core together past this season.

In addition to Aiyuk, quarterback Brock Purdy will soon be due for an extension, and they have already given out sizable deals to pass rusher Nick Bosa, running back Christian McCaffrey and middle linebacker Fred Warner.

After losing in the Super Bowl in two of the last five seasons, San Francisco hopes to finally break through and win the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the first time since the 1994 season.

Still, because of their salary cap situation, time may be running out for them, even though their core is relatively young.

Aiyuk, 26, caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns last season, and he has gradually grown into the team’s top passing threat over the past few years.
