Analyzing the 2024 Copa América Semifinals: Matchday 1 Preview and Discussion

2024 Copa América Semifinals, Matchday 1: Match thread and discussion

We have reached the 2024 Copa America semifinals, and the final four teams will dance over the next couple days to determine who lifts the trophy. The first semifinal takes place this evening as Argentina faces Canada in a rematch of the Copa America opener.

Argentina defeated Ecuador on penalties in the quarterfinals to get to this point, and they still appear to be the favorites to win it all. Of course, Lionel Messi is a danger to score at any point, but he can also create for one of the many playmakers alongside him. Their defense will also keep them in any match even if it feels like they struggle offensively, as they did in the opener.

Canada is here after beating Venezuela on penalties in the quarterfinals, and it’s still a marvel that they are at this point under American coach Jesse Marsch. They still have only scored 2 goals in the entire tournament, but they still are at this point and go up against the only team to defeat them thus far. They will need to score goals if they want a chance to get to the final.

Tune in and watch all the action!
