Andre Onana’s Stellar Performance Earns Him a Spot in BBC Team of the Week against Crystal Palace – Man United News And Transfer News

Andre Onana saves Manchester United from humiliation against Crystal Palace - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has been included in BBC Sport’s Team of the Week following a top performance during Saturday’s goalless stalemate at Selhurst Park.

A toothless United were held to a frustrating draw by Crystal Palace but it could have been far worse for the Red Devils were it not for some heroics from Onana.

The Cameroonian was a spectator for large parts of the game but was called into immediate action midway through the second half when Eddie Nketiah’s low strike came at him.

The United shot-stopper parried the shot away before he quickly got back to his feet and thrust himself in the way of Ismaila Sarr’s rebound, which looked destined to head into the back of the net.

It was Onana’s third clean sheet of the Premier League season, which makes him level with last term’s Golden Glove winner, David Raya of Arsenal.

Onana’s exploits earned him a place in Troy Deeney’s BBC Team of the Week.

He featured in an XI also consisting of a defensive four of Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Gabriel (Arsenal) and Ricardo Calafiori (Arsenal).

In midfield, Deeney selected Sam Morsy (Ipswich Town), James Maddison (Tottenham Hotspur) and Tyler Dibling (Southampton).

The attacking three were Luis Diaz (Liverpool), Iliman Ndiaye (Everton) and Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea).

On why he opted for Onana, Deeney wrote, “He made an excellent double save, which I thought was miles better than David Raya’s in the Champions League.”

“Onana is under pressure at Manchester United, but he kept them in a game they probably should have gone on to win. He was top drawer.”

The United goalkeeper and his teammates return to action on Wednesday when they host Dutch outfit FC Twente in the Europa League.
