Andreeva Still Considering Former Wimbledon Champion as Permanent Coach

Mirra Andreeva has been working with former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez recently. However, it’s uncertain if this collaboration will become permanent.

Andreeva made a name for herself last year with significant wins against top players, climbing into the Top 100 and then the Top 50, where she has remained.

Despite her success as a teenager, this year has been challenging for Andreeva. Her performance lacked the confidence, level, and victories she had previously shown. However, in Madrid this week, she had a notable comeback with impressive wins.

She reached the quarter-finals in Madrid, where she was defeated by defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, who later advanced to the final. Andreeva has been training with former WTA player Conchita Martinez, known for her work with top players.

Andreeva and Martinez will continue their partnership at the Italian Open in Rome next week. However, Martinez has not confirmed if she will remain part of Andreeva’s team.

“We have to talk about it, we agreed not to touch on that topic until she finished in Madrid. Right now I know that I will go to Rome, but I think the trial period is going quite well, we have good chemistry and we are working very well. In the coming weeks we will talk about it.”

Andreeva is currently in a crucial phase of her career as she defines the player she wants to become. Not being the most aggressive player can be a challenge in today’s hard-hitting tennis landscape.

This lack of aggression was evident against Sabalenka, highlighting the importance of having a skilled coach to guide her.
