Andrew Bogut Joins Coaching Staff of Australian Team He Co-Owns

After a remarkable 14-year NBA career, Andre Bogut’s journey in the basketball world continues. The Australian icon has joined the coaching staff of the Sydney Kings under Brian Goorjian, aiming to lead the club he partially owns to victory in the National Basketball League (NBL).

At 40 years old, Bogut is famously known for being the top overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft and securing his NBA championship with the Warriors a decade later. He has proudly represented the Australian Boomers in three Olympic Games.

Brian Goorjian, the head coach of the Kings, has previously collaborated with Bogut on the international stage and boasts six NBL titles to his name. “Andrew’s experience as a three-time Olympian and an NBA champion brings unmatched pedigree,” he stated on Wednesday.

He further expressed confidence in Bogut’s potential impact, saying, “His deep understanding of the game is exceptional, and I believe he will be an invaluable asset to our coaching staff.” Goorjian added, “I’m thrilled to have someone of his caliber alongside me. This is going to be a pivotal season for the Kings.”

Since retiring from professional basketball in 2020, Bogut had two seasons with the Kings before becoming a part-owner. “After five years away from the game, my desire to return to the court grew stronger,” Bogut shared.

With a clear commitment to this next chapter, he remarked, “Coaching is a passion of mine, and I’m eager to help propel this team forward,” emphasizing his goal of winning an NBL championship.

Nearly two decades ago, Bogut made history as the first Australian to be the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft when the Milwaukee Bucks selected him. Throughout his illustrious 14 seasons, he played for the Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, and Cleveland Cavaliers before returning to Sydney.
