Three-time Grand Slam champion Murray suggested he won’t play next month’s Paris Olympic Games if he’s not selected to play doubles.
“I need to see what happens with the Olympics,” Murray told the media in Stuttgart on Tuesday following his 6-3, 6-4 defeat to Marcos Giron. “I’m not 100 percent sure what the situation is there with the doubles yet and whether or not I will play if I just get in the singles. I don’t know.”
The 37-year-old Murray, who lost to fellow three-time major champion Stan Wawrinka in straight sets at Roland Garros last month, said recurring back issues contribute to his reluctance to play the Paris Olympics exclusively in singles.
“My body didn’t feel great playing on the clay in the last month or so. I had quite a few issues with my back, so I don’t know if I would go just for singles,” Murray said.
