Anthony Davis Opens Up About His Response to Lakers Selecting Bronny James in Draft

Anthony Davis has detailed his initial reaction to the Lakers selecting Bronny James 55th overall at the NBA Draft last month.

“I actually called him when he got drafted,” Davis said in an interview with Today. “I called LeBron, I don’t have Bronny’s number yet. I called Bron, you know, (LeBron said) ‘What’s up man?’ (I said) ‘I don’t want to talk to you, I want to talk to my new teammate!’”

Davis added that he was excited to be a part of history, with LeBron and Bronny set to be the first father-son teammates in NBA history.

“It’s gonna be fun, man,” Davis said. “Obviously, that’s a great experience, and great for the James family. To be able to have not only a father-son duo in the league at the same time, but to be on the same team… it’s gonna be fun to witness.

“… And hopefully we get to do something special. And what other player to learn from. Obviously he’s been learning since he was born from LeBron, but to be able to kind of be in it now and learn from your dad and help all of us kind of build Bronny up to follow his dad’s footsteps, or surpass, or who knows. But it’s a cool experience and I’m glad to be part of it.”

Bronny played his first game for the Lakers on Saturday when he made his NBA Summer League debut in a 108-94 loss to the Sacramento Kings at the California Classic. He finished with 4 points on 2-for-9 shooting, to go with 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in 22 minutes.
