Anthony Edwards has shared his thoughts on the moment he began taunting Kevin Durant after making a series of shots over him in Game 1 of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ first-round series victory against the Phoenix Suns.
Edwards’ standout performance, highlighted by 18 points in the third quarter, played a key role in the Timberwolves’ dominant 120-95 win and a 1-0 series lead.
After the game, Edwards expressed, “I think everyone knows he’s my favorite player of all time. That was definitely one of the best feelings of my life.”
He also praised Durant, saying, “He scored 4, 5 straight buckets effortlessly. At one point, I became a fan and thought, ‘wow, he’s really good.’.. He’s the best to ever do it.”
Edwards mentioned his excitement about facing the Suns in the first round, especially with Durant and Devin Booker, his future Team USA teammates, on the opposing team.
He told ESPN, “Now that I know I’ll be playing with those two at the Olympics, it’s about pride at this point. That’s all the motivation I need.”
In the same interview, he expressed his desire to face the Suns in the playoffs, noting, “This is the matchup I wanted because they have two of the best shooting guards in the league. Booker has been the top 2-guard for a while.”
The Timberwolves will face the Suns again in Game 2 on Tuesday.
