Anthony Martial, ex-Manchester United star, reportedly set to sign with Flamengo – Latest updates on Man United’s transfers

Former Manchester United star Anthony Martial now "expected to join" Flamengo - Man United News And Transfer News

Former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is reportedly set to join Brazilian side Flamengo.

Martial was on United’s books for nine years until his departure in the summer after his contract ran out.

United signed Martial from French outfit Monaco in September 2015 for an initial fee of £36million, making him the world’s most expensive teenager at the time.

While he had some high moments at Old Trafford, Martial mostly struggled to live up to expectations.

A combination of regularly occurring injuries and struggles for consistency kept Martial from truly living up to his great potential.

He scored 90 goals in 317 appearances for the Red Devils, but his last game for the club was a 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth on 9 December.

From the outside, it appeared that Martial found acceptable offers from top clubs around Europe extremely hard to come by, as the summer transfer window opened and closed without the forward finding a new team.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that AEK Athens presented him with a very lucrative proposal to join their ranks.

Fabrizio Romano subsequently revealed that Flamengo established contact with Martial to explore the possibility of getting a deal over the line. Romano noted that Martial was considering several options and had not said yes to Flamengo.

Journalist Luca Bendoni has now divulged that the former United man is on the verge of joining Flamengo.

Bendoni wrote on X, “Anthony Martial is expected to join Flamengo, according to my sources.”

Flamengo are currently fourth in Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, behind table leaders Botafogo, Fortaleza in second place and Palmeiras in third.
