An exchange student from China has a warrant out for his arrest after allegedly breaking into Steph Curry’s home for an autograph in October.
A man named Sheng Gao took a bus took a bus from his Cupertino home on Oct. 15 to Atherton to try and find the home of Curry and allegedly get an autograph, according to the Paolo Alto Daily Post – who first reported the break-in.
The man spoke to a woman who pointed out Curry’s residence, so Gao went up to the gate keypad and started pressing buttons and the gate opened, according to Chief Deputy District Attorney Sean Gallagher.
Gallagher said that Gao walked up to the driveway of the house and opened the front door, which was unlocked.
Steph and his wife Ayesha weren’t home at the time, but their three kids and the nanny were.
The nanny reportedly saw Gao on the camera when he was at the gate keypad and confronted him as he came into the living room.
The nanny demanded to know why Gao was there and he said he wanted Curry’s “signature”.
“The nanny called police and they found him walking along El Camino Real. Since police did not see him in the home, and he didn’t have anything stolen, he was given a ticket by police, according to police Cmdr. Dan Larsen,” the Palo Alto Daily Post reports.
Since he didn’t show up for his court date last week, a warrant is now out for his arrest.
“In a statement to CBS News Bay Area, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe’s office said 18-year-old Sheng Gao was scheduled to appear in Redwood City misdemeanor court on Thursday for his arraignment. Gao failed to appear in court and a judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest, with bail on the warrant set at $500.”
