Reports suggest that Arsenal is interested in signing Jules Kounde from Barcelona in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Gunners aim to take advantage of Barcelona’s financial troubles to secure their preferred defender.
Arsenal Want To Sign Barcelona Defender Jules Kounde
Barcelona has been facing challenges in complying with Financial Fair Play regulations, leading to restrictions on new signings and the sale of key players like Lionel Messi to avoid penalties. Sources indicate that Barcelona may need to offload more big names in the summer transfer window to maintain FFP compliance.
According to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, Arsenal is aware of Barcelona’s situation and is looking to sign Kounde as a result. Although Kounde is considered a crucial player for Barcelona, they may be open to letting him go for the right offer. Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen on bringing Kounde to Arsenal, recognizing his versatility as both a full-back and center-back.
Romero reports that Arteta values Kounde’s ability to play in multiple positions, which would provide valuable depth to the Gunners’ squad. While Arsenal already has several versatile defenders, including Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu, they see Kounde as a valuable addition to the team.
Arsenal has not yet made an official offer for Kounde but is expected to do so in the near future.
How Has Kounde Fared At Barca?
Kounde joined Barcelona from Sevilla in the summer of 2022 for around €50 million ($53.48 million). After a period of adjustment, he established himself as a key player for Barcelona, delivering strong performances in both defense and attack. While Barcelona won the La Liga title in Kounde’s debut season, they fell short of silverware in the following season.
So far, Kounde has made 88 appearances for Barcelona, scoring three goals and providing 10 assists. His contract with Barcelona is set to expire in June 2027.
