Arteta Reflects on Memorable Victory Against Spurs
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised the impact that Eberechi Eze has made on the team after the player declined a transfer to Tottenham and went on to score a hat trick in the North London Derby. Arsenal triumphed over Tottenham with a score of 4-1.
Leandro Trossard scored first in the match at the 36-minute mark, while Eze’s hat trick marked the first of its kind in this rivalry in 47 years. Richarlison’s impressive long-range goal was the only response from Spurs.
Eze chose not to join Tottenham following his departure from Crystal Palace last summer. After the game, Arteta commented: “Things happen for a reason. Following his time with the England national team, he had a couple of days off, but after a single day, he was eager to train and seek improvement, asking me questions about various aspects of his game.”
Arteta continued, “When a player possesses such talent combined with a strong desire, great things can happen. He fully deserves this recognition. Since joining us, he has added a special quality to the team.”
Arteta also highlighted the joy Eze brings, saying, “This team needed someone with his aura, and I hope it boosts both his confidence and that of the entire squad, showing that he can win games for us at any moment.” He emphasized the importance of fulfilling Eze’s potential.
Despite the emphatic win, Arteta downplayed the significance of Arsenal’s six-point advantage at the top of the Premier League standings. This victory came on a weekend when both Manchester City and Liverpool faced defeats. The Gunners took advantage of the situation to extend their lead over Chelsea.
Addressing the gap in points, Arteta stated, “In this league, the difference isn’t substantial. We’re performing quite well and have maintained consistency. The scorelines in matches, regardless of the outcomes, often reflect small margins.” He reiterated the need for players to return, noting the return of Noni Madueke to training, while acknowledging that the squad still missed several key players.
After a disappointing draw against Sunderland just before the international break, Arteta expressed relief at returning to winning ways: “We lost two points in the dying moments of that match. The international break left us with a bitter taste since we had ten straight wins beforehand.” He concluded by emphasizing the importance of regaining momentum through the London Derby victory.
