According to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal will closely monitor Fabio Vieira’s performances during his loan spell at FC Porto. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta will assess Vieira’s performances before having a conversation with him and his representatives to determine his future at the club.
Fabio Vieira Has Joined Porto After Failing To Thrive At Arsenal
Arsenal signed Vieira from FC Porto in July 2022 for €35 million ($38.8 million). Despite being a talented attacking midfielder, the 24-year-old struggled to compete with Arsenal’s No. 10 Martin Odegaard. As a result, Vieira only started three out of the 22 Premier League games he played in his debut season, scoring once and providing two assists. In the following season, he appeared in 17 games across all competitions, scoring twice and assisting three times.
Seeking more playing time and development opportunities, Vieira requested to go out on loan, which Arsenal approved.
Fabrizio Romano Claims Mikel Arteta Will Decide Fabio Vieira’s Future In 2025
Vieira will spend the upcoming season on loan at Porto, with his performances determining his future at Arsenal, as per Romano’s insights.
In a Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside, Romano stated:
“It’s crucial for him to return to playing regular football every week with the loan to Porto. Arsenal will monitor his progress throughout the 2024/25 season and make a decision in 2025 after a conversation between Arteta, the player, and his representatives. By then, Vieira will be 25 years old, and a decisive career move will be necessary.
“As of now, no plans are in place, and the loan deal allows for flexibility in Vieira’s future.”
Before joining Arsenal, Vieira came through Porto’s youth system and had played 76 games, scoring 10 goals and providing 18 assists.
