Aston Villa has expressed interest in acquiring Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta.
The 28-year-old forward is seeking to depart from the London club this month and has been associated with teams such as AC Milan and Juventus. However, according to Stefan Borson from Football Insider, a transfer to Aston Villa appears to be the most feasible option for him.
Nottingham Forest is also pursuing Mateta.
Could Mateta Join Aston Villa?
Crystal Palace is asking for £40 million for the striker, and Borson suggests that Aston Villa is in a position to afford this price. With an impressive season underway, the West Midlands club is in contention for a Champions League spot for the upcoming season, currently sitting in third place in the league table.
Borson stated, “I believe Crystal Palace stands a better chance of receiving that amount from Villa.”
“It wouldn’t surprise me if Mateta ends up at Villa. Given the club’s position in the Premier League and their involvement in the Europa League, it appears to be a wise choice for Villa.”
“If they can navigate their financial constraints, it would make perfect sense to bring Mateta on board.”
Villa recently acquired Tammy Abraham, making it intriguing to see if they aim to bolster their attacking options even further.
Mateta: A Valuable Addition

Mateta has proven himself in the Premier League and could significantly impact Aston Villa’s offensive play. Beyond scoring, the French forward excels in linking up with teammates and can effectively hold up the ball.
This season, he has contributed to 12 goals in all competitions and is at a peak stage in his career. The chance to join Aston Villa presents an exciting opportunity for him, especially as they compete in the UEFA Europa League and are well-positioned for Champions League qualification next year. This makes them an appealing choice for aspiring players.
