Aston Villa’s left-back, Lucas Digne, has shared his reasons for choosing to live in London rather than Birmingham, despite representing the West Midlands club.
He noted the lack of French educational institutions in Birmingham, expressing a desire for his children to receive a bilingual education in both French and English. Living in London allows him to foster a multicultural learning environment for them.

Digne discussed his situation with SoFoot (via SportWitness): “Choosing to reside in London was a family decision. When I joined Villa in 2022, my son began school, and unfortunately, there are no French schools in Birmingham.”
“It was vital for us that our children could become fluent in both French and English. In London, they have the chance to immerse themselves in both languages. They’re growing up with two, or even three, cultures, considering my wife’s Algerian background. They’re still young, but their open-mindedness is apparent.”
The French international makes a lengthy commute to Villa’s training sessions each day, unable to relocate due to family commitments. He often leaves home early in the morning to get to practice.
Digne’s Contributions at Aston Villa
Since joining Aston Villa, Digne has proven to be a key player, regarded as one of the top fullbacks in the Premier League. He aims to help the team conclude the season on a high note while striving for Champions League qualification for the next term. Their performance in the league has been commendable thus far.
Although Digne has been rumored to be considering leaving Aston Villa, retaining high-caliber players like him will be crucial for the club’s ambitions at the top level.
