Thursday’s action at the Miami Open featured Felix Auger-Aliassime picking up a much-needed win, defeating Adam Walton 7-5, 6-4.
The Canadian will next face No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev for a place in the third round.
Elsewhere, Alejandro Tabilo, Daniel Altmaier and Laslo Djere all reached the second round. Austrian Sebastian Ofner ousted fan favourite Kei Nishikori 6-3, 6-4 earlier in the day. Nishikori was returning to competition after a lengthy injury layoff.
On the women’s side, No. 8 seed Maria Sakkari, No. 11 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, No. 22 seed Anna Kalinskaya, No. 25 seed Katie Boulter and 32 seed Anhelina Kalinina all reached the third round. American Taylor Townsend caused an upset by dismissing No. 25 seed Elise Mertens 6-2, 6-2.
Friday’s action in Miami will feature Coco Gauff, Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sabalenka and world No. 1 Iga Swiatek.
