Paula Badosa has been dealing with injuries that have kept her off the tennis court recently, and she shared the severity of her struggles.
Despite her strong physical presence on the court, the Spaniard has faced challenges due to her injuries. Known for her dedication to training, Badosa’s prolonged absence raised concerns about the severity of her situation.
After missing several events, it became clear that Badosa’s injuries were significant. In a recent interview on the WTA Insider Podcast, she opened up about the extent of her struggles.
“Honestly, I have goosebumps again, because in Indian Wells the doctors told me it’ll be very complicated to continue my career. And I said, okay, I need a solution – something.”
“So you know, we tried these injections – cortisone. And they said, this is the only option we can give you and maybe you will have to keep doing that if you want to play for a few more years. “I’m like, a few more years? I’m still 26.”
Learning that she might have to limit her playing time and endure constant pain was a difficult reality for Badosa, especially considering her age. The prospect of not being able to compete at her best for several more years was disheartening.
“So for me that was very tough. And you’ll have to handle, especially the hardcourt, you have to play very less, and play less tournaments and all this. So for me (who) loves to compete, that was a very, very bad news. Constant suffering.”
Despite a promising return at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Badosa suffered another unrelated injury that forced her to retire from the tournament, adding to her challenges.
