Barcelona to deter Man United’s pursuit of Pau Cubarsi with substantial release clause in new contract – Latest Man United Transfer Updates

Barcelona set to thwart Man United's interest in Pau Cubarsi by including hefty release clause in new deal - Man United News And Transfer News

Barcelona are reportedly prepared to include a huge release clause in Pau Cubarsi’s new deal in an effort to ward off interest in his services from the likes of Manchester United.

Procuring defensive reinforcements is thought to be high on United’s priority list ahead of the summer transfer window.

This season Erik ten Hag has had to deal with multiple injuries to key members of his backline who have missed several games. In fact, Diogo Dalot is the only United defender not to have failed to feature in a match due to a physical setback.

Combine this with the fact that there is uncertainty about the future of stars like Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane and it makes sense why United are eager to deep into the market for fresh faces.

The 20-time English champions have been linked to several transfer targets including Barca wonderkid Cubarsi.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Cubarsi was attracting interest from United, their cross-town rivals Manchester City and even Chelsea. ‘

Ten Hag’s side were tipped as the club most likely to make a concrete move to land the 17-year-old.

The teenager is currently enjoying a stellar breakthrough season that has seen him make 18 first-team appearances across all competitions so far. In that time, he has helped the Blaugrana keep an impressive seven clean sheets. He played the full 90 minutes in both legs of Barcelona’s Champions League quarter-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

Cubarsi’s exploits even earned him his first two senior caps for Spain last month, as he lined up against Brazil and Colombia.

It has been a meteoric rise for the Estanyol-born footballer who has been hailed for his ball-playing ability and excellent distribution.

Cubarsi’s current contract at Camp Nou expires in the summer of 2026 and is believed to have a modest €15million (£12.7m) release clause which is a no-brainer for teams like United that are constantly on the hunt for the best young players in the world.

It was relayed that he’s likely to pledge his future to Barca by signing a new deal.

A fresh report has explained that Barca are poised to disappoint United by handing their talented youngster fresh terms that are significantly lucrative and which will also include a new mega release clause to the tune of €500m.

It’s understood that Cubarsi’s new contract would run for five years and his salary would increase by the year. He will initially earn a starting annual salary of €4m (£3.4m), which would increase per year to €12m (£10.2m) per annum for the final year of the deal.

Should this get over the line, it would almost certainly spell the end of United’s pursuit of Cubarsi as Barca would have firm control of his future.
