Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are set to compete for the signing of Ian Subiabre from River Plate. Renowned journalist Hernan Castillo reports that both clubs are making ongoing inquiries about the talented 19-year-old winger, with hopes of finalizing a deal come summer.

Subiabre Likely to Move This Summer

“River Plate will be active in the transfer market later this year. They will both invest and sell, as retaining Subiabre will be a challenge given the level of interest surrounding him,” Castillo stated. “Teams like Tottenham, Chelsea, Villarreal, and Lazio are all actively pursuing him. Currently, Tottenham appears to be taking the lead.”

“An initial bid of €8 million (£6.9 million) was turned down by River Plate, and Tottenham is contemplating an offer in the range of €12 million to €14 million (£10.4 million to £12.2 million).”

Potential Benefits for Tottenham and Chelsea

If Tottenham secures Subiabre for around €14 million, it would be considered an excellent acquisition. The young player possesses immense talent and has the potential to bring significant impact to the team’s attacking options. He has recorded three goals and three assists in 35 appearances for River Plate.

Chelsea shares a similar need for a player of Subiabre’s caliber, as he could effectively compete with Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens in the upcoming season.

The chance to move to England presents an exciting opportunity for the South American forward, marking a significant advancement in his career and providing him with the challenge of playing at a higher competitive level. Regular first-team football in England would facilitate his growth as a player.

With strong financial backing, both Chelsea and Tottenham are capable of completing this transfer. Ultimately, the decision rests on which club can successfully persuade Subiabre, who should prioritize a move that guarantees him a clear path to the first team and ample playing time, rather than risk stagnation on the bench at a larger club.
