Reigning Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly aiming to beat Manchester United to the signing of Rosenborg wonderkid Sverre Nypan, even going a step further to send scouts to watch him over the weekend.
Nypan has been linked to United for a number of months now, with the player himself previously admitting that it would be “a dream come true” to play for the Red Devils.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are poised to continue keeping tabs on the 17-year-old during the remainder of the season before potentially heading to the negotiating table in a bid to sign him.
Nypan is a versatile player who can be deployed in various midfield roles as well as in the number nine position.
He’s widely considered to be one of Europe’s hottest prospects and has drawn comparisons to Arsenal captain and fellow countryman Martin Odegaard.
He put pen to paper on his first professional deal with Rosenborg in January 2022. He made his senior debut for the club shortly after as he impressed his coaches with his amazing performances.
At just 15 years and 322 days old, Nypan became Rosenborg’s youngest-ever player, and the seventh youngest in Eliteserien history in the 21st century, following in the footsteps of Ødegaard and several others.
To date, the teenager has made 51 appearances for Rosenborg. He has managed ten goals and as many assists in that period.
In addition to United, Arsenal were also mentioned as an interested party in Nypan – unsurprising considering Odegaard plies his trade at the Emirates.
It has now emerged that Leverkusen have also set their sights on the Norwegian starlet.
It’s understood that Xabi Alonso’s side even sent scouts to watch him on Sunday as Rosenborg and Lillestrom played out a 1-1 draw at Åråsen Stadion.
Nypan’s contract with Rosenborg runs until December 2026.
