Carlos Alcaraz is one of the most electric players in recent memory, and part of that is that, compared to some other players, that it’s hard to know what to expect from him.
Almost everybody, including Novak Djokovic, agrees that Jannik Sinner and Alcaraz will be the leading players on the ATP Tour in the coming decade. They’re both still very young but also very dominant.
Outside of the Serbian legend, they are the big names in tennis at the moment, and in many ways, they’ve been ahead of Djokovic so far this year. The Italian won the first Grand Slam of this year, while the Spanish player won the second, but there are clear differences between them.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Becker noted the difference between the youngsters. On the one hand, Sinner is super confident in his tennis and plays a certain way, which doesn’t change much depending on his opponent. He’s also very consistent with his level, rarely oscillating too much.
On the other hand, Alcaraz is a bit different. His peaks are higher than Sinner’s, but he’s also very volatile. His level goes up and down during matches, which was evident in their recent clash in Paris.
“We all have weaknesses, even Alcaraz! No, seriously, on the court he’s close to perfection, but sometimes he is a bit fluctuating in form while Sinner is more continuously consistent.”

In their matches so far, Alcaraz has often come out on top against Sinner, but that can change anytime because of the Spaniard’s tendency to cycle through different levels at different times.
