Bellingham Eager for England Recall but Selection Is Beyond His Control
Jude Bellingham has expressed his desire to rejoin the England national team for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers but acknowledged that the decision is not his to make.
The Real Madrid midfielder missed last month’s qualifying matches against Latvia and Wales due to limited playing time following shoulder surgery, which also caused him to sit out two qualifiers in September. His last appearance for England was in June during a loss to Senegal.
Following that game, there was tension between Bellingham and manager Thomas Tuchel, who criticized the young star’s behavior on the field, a comment he later apologized for.
The England squad for the next qualifiers against Serbia and Albania will be announced on Friday. Tuchel had previously stated his intention to communicate with Bellingham regarding his potential inclusion.
“It’s not my call,” Bellingham remarked in an Amazon Prime interview when asked if he expected to be selected. “I think you know whose call it is. I would love to be [picked] but I’ll be waiting to see.”
Bellingham was seen in action during his club’s Champions League fixture against Liverpool on Tuesday, although Tuchel was absent from the match. England has already secured a spot for the World Cup taking place next year in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
