Ben Thomas secures awards sweep for Cheshire Phoenix, scooping Molten Kevin Cadle Coach of the Month honours for November

Ben Thomas secures awards sweep for Cheshire Phoenix, scooping Molten Kevin Cadle Coach of the Month honours for November

ANOTHER ONE! Yes, that’s right. For the second time this season, Cheshire Phoenix Head Coach has won the Molten Kevin Cadle Coach of the Month award, securing November’s prize.

The leader of the Nix Nation, Thomas, guided Cheshire to a stellar month and a 5-1 record with impressive victories on the road against Manchester Giants, Surrey Scorchers and Caledonia Gladiators, as well as home dubs against the Scorchers and Leicester Riders.

Buoyed by the return to health of the mercurial Aaryn Rai and stellar performances from the rest of his roster – including November Player of the Month, Laquincy Rideau – Thomas’ Phoenix have shown no signs of slowing down after a fabulous start to the season.

Their 11-5 record in the British Basketball League Championship is only bettered by the defending champions, the London Lions, leaving the Phoenix looking up from second place with the rest of the League chasing them down.

Thomas got the better of significant challenges in the
voting to win this award, taking 48% of the vote ahead of Newcastle’s Marc
Steutel with 39%, and the duo – who are among the most exciting young head
coaches in the league – will face off at Ellesmere Port Sports Village later
this month.

Before then, though, the Phoenix get back to work on the hardwood on Sunday afternoon in Sheffield, facing the high-flying Sharks in a crunch fixture, which you can watch live and for free on our YouTube channel.

Following confirmation of his second Molten Kevin Cadle Coach of the Month win of the season, Ben Thomas said:

“To win this award for the second time this season demonstrates the consistency the team has shown so far this season. We know that there is a lot of work and games to come, but as a club we are staying locked in and hoping to keep performing at a high level.

“I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone at the club who makes this possible including the staff, players, volunteers and of course the fans who make the games a lot easier!”
