Benzema Urges Mbappé to Elevate His Game for Real Madrid

Karim Benzema has called on Kylian Mbappé to enhance his contributions during critical matches for Real Madrid. The illustrious forward, who enjoyed a decorated 14-year career with Madrid before transferring to Al Ittihad in July 2023, expressed his thoughts on his former French national teammate in an interview with Diario AS. He stated, “He’s much better; scoring goals isn’t new to him. He did it at Paris Saint-Germain, and at Real Madrid he’ll score many more.”

Mbappé, aged 26, had an impressive debut season with Madrid, netting 43 goals across all competitions and finishing as the top scorer in LaLiga. This season is also off to a brilliant start for him, with 18 goals in just 16 matches.

Benzema emphasized the importance of Mbappé focusing particularly during high-pressure moments. “Real Madrid needs him a lot, and there are games where he has to score, like against Atlético Madrid, Liverpool… These are teams that sit back, and he has to step up,” he noted. He added that while there might be matches where Mbappé is less involved, he is expected to capitalize on his chances when they arise.

Furthermore, Benzema offered insights on team dynamics, advocating for improved communication among players like Vinícius, Mbappé, Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham. He indicated that each player has distinct roles, stating, “One is there to score goals, another to provide assists. They have to communicate.”

Meanwhile, Benzema reflected positively on his experience in Saudi Arabia while hinting at the possibility of extending his stay at Al Ittihad beyond his current contract, which runs until June 2026. He remarked, “I see myself playing football for another two years. Physically, I’m fine, I work hard, and I’m enjoying it. The level of football in the league is getting better and better.” He also mentioned the importance of face-to-face discussions regarding his future with the club.
