After tearing Achilles, Bernhard Langer is back at Insperity

Bernhard Langer Makes Inspiring Return from Achilles Injury

Bernhard Langer, known as the Energizer Bunny of PGA Tour Champions, is back in action this week at the Insperity Invitational. Despite tearing his left Achilles tendon while playing pickleball in February, the 66-year-old defied the odds to return just three months later.

During a pre-tournament press conference, Langer shared, “I got this tournament that I’d love to play, it’s in 3 months.” His quick recovery surprised both his surgeon and physical therapist, who originally estimated a 4-6 month recovery period.

Having won the Insperity Invitational four times, Langer was determined to return to this tournament. He made a compelling argument to his healthcare team, emphasizing the flat nature of Houston, making mobility easier for him.

Langer’s resilience is not new. From surviving a risky birth to overcoming near-death experiences as a baby, hardships have always surrounded Langer. Introduced to golf by his brother at a young age, Langer learned the game by caddying. His passion and talent for golf led him to turn pro at just 15 years old.

Despite battling the yips on multiple occasions, Langer’s determination and faith in higher purposes kept him going. His journey is detailed in a new book “Life on the Green: Lessons and Wisdom from Legends of Golf” by Ann Liguori.

As the winningest senior golfer, Langer’s story serves as an inspiration for many. In a sport where champions are molded by lessons in golf and life, Langer stands tall among legends like Nancy Lopez, Tom Watson, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Annika Sorenstam.

Looking ahead to the future, Langer aims to ease back into competition knowing he’s not fully healed yet. Despite the uncertainties, his experience and determination make him a contender to watch in the upcoming tournaments.
