Berrettini Realistic Ahead Of Tennis Comeback

Matteo Berrettini is working hard on returning to tennis, but he’s realistic that things won’t be easy due to his ranking.

Matteo Berrettini suffered a pretty bad ankle roll at the US Open, which caused him to miss the rest of the year. It was a very unfortunate moment for the Italian, who had struggled with injuries throughout the year and had just gotten back to playing tennis regularly.

As tough as it was, Berrettini opted for a more conservative approach instead of rushing to come back quickly. He wanted to really give himself time to prepare for next year properly.

It makes sense because the return will be quite complicated as he’ll have to rebuild his ranking, which means more matches and more events.

I will now return with the tournaments in Australia but with my current ranking everything will be more complicated. In 2024 I ask to experience the emotions I felt in Malaga and Bologna [during the Davis Cup].

The end of the year didn’t bring much tennis to Berrettini, but he felt a lot of joy. He watched and cheered on as his compatriots won the Davis Cup, which had been his long-time dream.

Unfortunately, he didn’t participate on the court, but it was still a great memory for Berrettini to be there and cheer his teammates on.

I missed it. Screaming for my teammates did me good. I hope to continue to get angry at a wrong shot and get excited for a winner. I’m good, I’m excited. Davis left us all with great enthusiasm, it’s a victory that comes from afar, from all the defeats that hurt us.

We’ll see what happens in January with Berrettini. The Australian Open has been a good sport for him generally, and a fully healthy Berrettini will always be one of the best in the world.
