Bianca Andreescu Sets Sights on Competing in Debut Olympics at Paris

Bianca Andreescu Targets Participation At Her First Olympics In Paris

Bianca Andreescu is currently away from tennis, but she will make a comeback just ahead of Roland Garros with plans to play at Wimbledon and the Paris Olympics.

The Canadian is currently on a hiatus, but she’ll return to the sport in the next few weeks. Andreescu last played in August of last year when she participated in her home event, the Canadian Open.

We haven’t seen her since then, but her comeback is coming up soon. She revealed on Instagram that she will come back the week before the French Open, and she also appears on the entry list for the Roland Garros.

Still, she won’t have much time to really prepare for the Roland Garros. One week on clay after a long hiatus isn’t a lot for any player. Perhaps it will be enough for the 2019 US Open champion, who has been working hard to return.

Another event she plans to play is the Olympic Games, and she’s really excited about that because it will be the first time she’s going to play at the Games. The Paris Olympics are played on clay, though, which makes her decision to play only one week ahead of Roland Garros a curious one.

An early exit from the major would ensure that she only gets in a couple of matches at best ahead of the Olympic Games, and that will make it hard for her to succeed at the event.

Also, the 23-year-old currently doesn’t have, and unless she wins the French Open or reaches the final, also won’t have, sufficient ranking to enter the Olympic Games, so she will likely attempt to use one of the exemptions.

Ultimately, she does know herself best and is really motivated, at least according to her own words. The results will be the best measure of her work. Her career has stalled considerably in recent years, but maybe she will find a spark and get it back on the trajectory it was on a few years ago.
