It’s going to be odd going into this upcoming NFL season without Bill Belichick on the sidelines for the first time in over two decades as he has officially passed the baton to Jerod Mayo as the new head coach of the New England Patriots.
Many assumed Belichick would take over as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons or Los Angeles Chargers this offseason, but Belichick will remain sidelined for next season, though recent reports suggest his hiatus might not last too long.
A new report suggests Belichick “intends to coach in 2025” according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, adding “He’ll be trying to better himself. He’ll be trying to remind you that he’s not Darth Vader, that there’s more to Bill Belichick. He’s done a good job of that so far through his media stuff. He’s fully invested in, he wants to coach again. He wants to pursue the all-time wins record. Those are things that really matter a lot to Bill Belichick.”

Statistically, every year there are a few head coach openings around the NFL, as it’s just an unfortunate part of the business.
A staggering 25 percent of the league has a new head coach this season, which made it even more surprising that Belichick didn’t get one of the jobs, just as former understudy and Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel was also left sidelined despite being what one would assume to be the top two candidates available.
It’s no surprise that Belichick reportedly intends to return in 2025, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up if he does come back.
