The Buffalo Bills are learning to navigate a world without Stefon Diggs and are expecting big things out of rookie second-round pick Keon Coleman to help fill the void left behind by the superstar’s trade to the Houston Texans.

Many are expecting Coleman to be the WR1 sooner than later and develop quickly into Josh Allen’s lead option alongside Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel, and general manager Brandon Beane recently shared his comments about Coleman’s development so far.

Beane was recently asked about how Coleman is doing so far, and he said, “I think Keon’s worked hard,” and noted how different college and NFL playbooks are, suggesting that “he’s gotta be involved in all phases of our offense,” after mentioning there were opportunities in the past to take plays off, especially in the run game (via Dov Kleiman).

It wasn’t harsh criticism by any means, as Beane acknowledged that Coleman is a rookie and there will naturally be bumps in the road, but the team is expecting a lot from him and will need him to deliver in all facets of the game, particularly the run game.

Coleman put up 50 catches for 658 yards and 11 touchdowns last year at Florida State and did enough for the Bills to select him with the 33rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Beane’s comments didn’t come across as atypical for a rookie, but it’s nice to hear that the team expects greatness out of Coleman, because the team needs it.

Coleman is first in line to replace Diggs, and he has big shoes to fill.
