Top seed Marie Bouzkova from the Czech Republic edged out German Laura Siegemund, the No 7 seed, 2-6 6-2 7-5 to move into the semi-finals of the Copa Colsanitas Zurich, the WTA 250 event being held at the Country Club Bogota on Friday night.

Siegemund, ranked No 89, defeated Belarusian qualifier Iryna Shymanovich, 7-6(5) 7-5. and Francesca Jones from Great Britain, 6-7(4) 6-4 6-2, earlier in the tournament.

Bouzkova, ranked No 42, will face Kamilla Rakhimova, the No 8 seed, next, after the Russian rallied past 4th-seeded Cristina Bucsa of Spain, 0-6 6-4 7-5, in the quarter-finals.

Rakhimova was shut out in the first set, but recovered to advance after 2 hours and 11 minutes of play.

Having defeated Canadian Rebecca Marino, 6-0 6-3, and American Hailey Baptiste, 6-3 6-4, earlier this week, Bouzkova, ranked 89, remains the favourite for the title on Sunday.

Unseeded Sara Errani from Italy also got off to a slow start before eliminating Romania’s Irina Bara, 4-6 6-2 6-3, to also advance to the semi-finals, saving 17 of 23 break points while converting 8 of her 20 opportunities.

In the last quarter-final match on Friday night, home-country favourite Camila Osorio, the 6th seed, upset 2-time Bogotá campion, Tatjana Maria, the 2nd seed from Germany, 1-6 6-3 6-3, in an hour and 49 minutes.

Osorio, the 2021 champion, came from a set down to end Maria’s 14-match win streak at the Copa Colsanitas Zurich and advance to the semi-finals.
