Bogotá | Osorio to meet Bouzkova in WTA 250 final in Colombia

Colombia’s own Camila Osorio defeated Sara Errani in straight sets to book a return to the final at the Copa Colsanitas Zurich in Bogotá on Saturday, where she will meet top seed Marie Bouzkova, who makes her first final of the season with a tight straight sets win over Sara Errani in the Last 4.

Osorio, ranked No 85 in the world, won the title in Bogotá in 2021, and is a firm home favourite after the 6th seed stopped Italy’s Errani’s run, 7-6(4) 6-4.

Errani, ranked No 117, had defeated Ukrainian Yulia Starodubtseva, 6-2 7-6(5), Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo, the No 3 seed, 6-2 4-6 6-4, and Romanian Irina Bara, 4-6 6-2 6-3, earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds of the WTA 250 tournament, the 22-year-old Colombian beat Canadian qualifier Marina Stakusic, 6-4 6-2, and Romanian qualifier Anca Alexia Todoni, 7-6(4) 6-4, before toppling the defending champion, German Tatjana Maria, the No 2 seed, 1-6 6-3 6-3, on Friday.

Top seed Marie Bouzkova won a tight straight set semi-final against Sara Errani to secure her spot in the final.

Bouzkova, who hails from the Czech Republic, eased past Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova, the No 8 seed, 6-4 7-6(2), to secure her place in the final at the Country Club Bogota on Saturday evening.

The top seed, who is ranked No 42 and looking for her her second WTA career title, had an easier passage this week, with wins over Canadian Rebecca Marino, 6-0 6-3, and American Hailey Baptiste, 6-3 6-4, before being tested by German Laura Siegemund, the No 7 seed, 2-6 6-2 7-5, in a gruelling quarter-final.

Previously, Rakhimova, ranked No 92, had taken down Colombian wild-card Valentina Mediorreal Arias, 6-4 6-7(6), 6-1), Mexican Renata Zarazua, 7-6(4) 6-7(5) 6-3, and then Spaniard Cristina Bucsa, the No 4 seed, 0-6 6-4 7-5.

Bouzkova and Osorio are both seeking to win a second title at the WTA 250 event in Bogota, with the Czech leading their head-to-head record, 2-0.

Although Bouzkova is the No. 1 seed and tipped for the title, Osorio will have the support of the Colombian home crowd in Sunday’s final in Bogotá.
