Former Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard recently discussed the challenge of balancing her tennis and pickleball careers simultaneously.
Bouchard, once a promising talent with a deep run at Wimbledon, faced hurdles that prevented her from reaching her full potential on the WTA Tour. At 30, she now divides her time between tennis and pickleball.
Juggling both sports, Bouchard shared the difficulties on Caroline Garcia’s podcast, highlighting the differences in instincts and challenges of transitioning between the two.
She confessed, “It’s hard to kind of transition between the two so I did two tennis in a row, now I’ll do a couple of pickle in a row.” Bouchard has always embraced multi-faceted endeavors, showcasing her versatility beyond tennis.
“For now [I want to keep playing both sports professionally], we’ll see how long this lasts because I’m adding a lot on my plate.”
Despite her varied commitments, Bouchard remains an active player, making sporadic comebacks in recent years with notable quarter-final appearances. However, her tennis season has been affected by the pandemic, limiting her matches.
Looking ahead, Bouchard’s future seems to involve a mix of endeavors, ranging from tennis and pickleball to commentary and other potential projects. The path she chooses will reflect her diverse interests and skills.
