Boulter Powers Through to Semi-Finals at WTA 250 in Ostrava, Czech Republic

In a remarkable turnaround at the WTA 250 Ostrava Open, British player Katie Boulter is making waves, overcoming a challenging season in 2025. After dipping down the rankings, Boulter found her stride, taking out local favorite Linda Fruhvirtova with a commanding scoreline of 6-3, 6-2, which propelled her into the semi-finals.

Reflecting on her performance, Boulter, 29, expressed satisfaction with her approach: “Today I came out with one mission in mind, and I felt I executed what I was trying to do well. She’s a tough competitor who throws everything at it. I’m really happy with the win today. I’ve been having an amazing time in Ostrava, and hopefully, I can keep going.” This victory marks Boulter’s first appearance in the semi-finals since clinching the title at the Paris Challenger in May of the previous year, causing her to rise to No. 110 in the live rankings.

Boulter’s recent coaching change—parting ways with longtime mentor Biljana Veselinovic and enlisting Michael Joyce—seems to be yielding positive results. In her match against Fruhvirtova, Boulter was aggressive, hitting 20 winners and securing 18 of 23 points on her first serve over a quick 68 minutes.

Looking ahead, she will square off against fellow American Katie Volynets in the semi-finals. Volynets earned her spot by staging a comeback against Alycia Parks, winning 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in a gritty duel lasting 2 hours and 26 minutes. The clash between Boulter and Volynets will be their first encounter on the professional circuit, with both players eager to advance to the final.

Boulter’s presence in the semi-finals is noteworthy not only for her own career but also for British tennis, as it marks the first time since the Lexus Nottingham Open in 2024 that two British women have reached a WTA semi-final in the same week—Emma Raducanu also making it to the final four at the Transylvania Open in Romania.

In other semi-final action, Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch has secured her place by toppling sixth seed Caty McNally, winning decisively with a score of 6-4, 6-2 in a match that lasted 2 hours and 1 minute. Korpatsch will now face France’s Diane Parry, who comfortably defeated 19-year-old Czech player Nikola Bartunkova with a score of 6-1, 6-3 in just 66 minutes.

With the tournament heating up, fans can anticipate thrilling matches as the players vie for a coveted place in the final of the Ostrava Open.
