Boulter Storms Into WTA 250 Quarterfinals in Ostrava, Czech Republic

Katie Boulter, currently ranked as the British No. 4, made a remarkable advance into the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Ostrava Open on Wednesday. She achieved this milestone with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 victory against fifth seed Victorija Golubic. Boulter’s next challenge will be against local favorite Linda Fruhvirtova, who will provide a tough test in the pursuit of a semi-final spot.

Boulter’s journey has been plagued by injuries and inconsistent form throughout much of 2025, which has seen her slip to 120th in the world rankings. However, since teaming up with her new coach, Michael Joyce, she appears to have rediscovered her competitive spirit in the Czech Republic. Notably, this marks her first quarter-final appearance since last year’s Nottingham tournament.

The 2023 season began promisingly for Boulter, who clinched victory at the ASB Classic in New Zealand. She also gained entry into the Australian Open’s main draw as an alternate, but her campaign was cut short in the first round by Belinda Bencic, who holds the title of World No. 9.

In her match against Golubic, Boulter exhibited her dominance on the court, finishing the contest in just 76 minutes while leveling their head-to-head record to 2-2.

In other action, the tournament saw another upset when Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch ousted second-seeded Emiliana Arango from Colombia with a straight-sets score of 6-3, 6-3 after an hour and 35 minutes of play. This win marks Korpatsch’s fifth career victory over a Top 50 player and her first since 2024 when she defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova at the Limoges WTA 125.

Korpatsch’s next opponent will be American Caty McNally, who secured her place in the quarter-finals after overcoming Czech wild-card Tereza Martincova on Tuesday.

In front of her home crowd, 19-year-old Nikola Bartunkova celebrated her advancement to her second career WTA quarter-final. She achieved this feat with a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 triumph over French qualifier Fiona Ferro, a match that lasted two hours.

Bartunkova will face Diane Parry in the quarter-finals, after the French player improved her personal record against Panna Udvardy, defeating the eighth seed from Hungary 6-1, 6-2 in a match that lasted 78 minutes. This victory marks Parry’s first WTA quarter-final appearance since Osaka in 2024.
