Breaking Down the 2024 Left Field and Right Field Replacement Levels

The 2024 Replacement-Level Killers: Left Field & Right Field

Today the Killers list focuses on teams with less-than-acceptable production in the outfield corners. These teams are still considered contenders with Playoff Odds of at least 9.5% and have received about 0.6 WAR or less from a position so far this season. Our Depth Charts’ rest-of-season WAR projections are also taken into account for additional perspective.

The capsules are listed in order of left field rankings first, with three teams meeting the criteria for both left and right field positions.

Braves:
The Braves’ planned left field platoon of Jarred Kelenic and Adam Duvall has not been as successful as hoped. Kelenic is hitting .255/.303/.418 with 1.0 WAR, while Duvall has struggled with a .192/.256/.329 line and -0.3 WAR. With key players injured, the Braves may need to make a move before the deadline.

Dodgers:
Teoscar Hernández has been a bright spot for the Dodgers, while other players in left field have underperformed. Names like Arozarena and Pham could be potential targets for the team.

Royals:
The Royals have been surprising contenders despite poor production in the outfield corners. Melendez and Renfroe have struggled, and the team may need to explore options like Ward or Rooker to improve.

Pirates:
Despite strong performance from Reynolds, the Pirates outfield as a whole has been a disaster. With multiple positions below replacement level, the team may need to make changes to improve overall production.
