Marc Guehi Set to Join Manchester City for £20 Million

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City is nearing the completion of a £20 million transfer for Marc Guehi, the center-back from Crystal Palace.

The England defender has “accepted” City’s offer, turning down interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, who were also keen on acquiring him this summer when he would have become a free agent.

City has been eager to finalize this deal promptly, and it appears that the 25-year-old has chosen to move to the Etihad Stadium after initially considering staying at Palace until his contract expired.

Romano has confirmed the transfer with his trademark announcement:

Romano previously linked Guehi with Arsenal and mentioned Liverpool’s ongoing interest from last summer.

Mikel Arteta highly values Guehi as a player; however, competition in the Arsenal squad could limit his playing time. Romano summarized, “Arsenal already has plenty of players in that position, which is a consideration.”

He also stated, “Liverpool had an agreement in place last summer, and they remain very interested in Guehi. This situation will definitely be one to follow.”

City’s need for Guehi has become urgent due to injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias, which left their defense vulnerable.

With the transfer underway, it seems unlikely Guehi would have achieved a regular starting position at Arsenal with established players William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes already in place.

This transfer marks a significant setback for Liverpool, who were close to signing Guehi over the summer and still require reinforcements for their defense, especially considering the aging Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate nearing free agency.
