Brenden Aaronson Set to Make Return to Leeds United

Report: Brenden Aaronson to return to Leeds

Brenden Aaronson could be returning to his parent club. Tom Bogert of The Athletic is reporting that after his loan to Union Berlin this past season, the USMNT midfielder will stay at Leeds United for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

The decision to stay at Leeds reportedly comes after a “positive chat” with Leeds coach Daniel Farke, with Aaronson wanting to stay and carve out a role on the team. Leeds finished 3rd in the EFL Championship this past season, barely missing out on automatic promotion. They eventually lost in the EFL Championship Playoff Final to Southampton and will remain in the 2nd division next season.

Aaronson spent the 2023-24 season on loan with Bundesliga side Union Berlin, where he had 30 appearances for the club across all competitions. He had 2 goals and 2 assists this season in a situation that saw him on the bench for a large part of the season before finally getting some consistent playing time down the stretch. Union Berlin barely avoided relegation, with Aaronson providing an assist in the last match to help Berlin avoid the relegation playoff.

Returning to Leeds, he hopes to be one of the guys that can help take them back to the top flight. He likely had the option to return to Germany, either on loan or a permanent deal. Instead, he will stay at Elland Road and play in the Championship this coming season.
