After the New York Giants got rocked at home by the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1, they are going to need their best players available if they want to bounce back.
Giants fans received some good news from head coach Brian Daboll in regards to rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers.
The coach said Nabers, who is dealing with a knee injury, will be “ready to play” in Week 2 against the Washington Commanders, according to Dan Salomone of Giants.com.
After losing running back Saquon Barkley to the Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent this offseason, it feels like Nabers, despite being just a rookie, is the best skill-position player on the Giants.
In his NFL debut, he caught five passes for 66 yards.
New York has some experience within its receiver core in Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Jalin Hyatt.
But at the same time, the offense is still looking for pass-catchers to emerge to help out struggling quarterback Daniel Jones.
The organization is a long way from the days of Victor Cruz, Odell Beckham Jr., and even Mario Manningham.
If Jones is going to step up his play, he is going to need a player like Nabers to be healthy and ready to contribute.
With Barkley gone, Nabers appears to be the future of the offense, whether or not Jones proves himself to be the franchise signal-caller.
Fans should pay special attention to see how Nabers performs coming off a minor knee injury.
