Brighton Close to Securing Deal with Manchester United for Star Signing Nikita Parris – Latest News and Transfer Updates

Brighton in "advanced talks" with Manchester United for the "marquee signing" of Nikita Parris - Man United News And Transfer News

Brighton and Hove Albion are reportedly in advanced talks with Manchester United over the signing of forward Nikita Parris.

The Guardian’s Tom Garry reports that Brighton are hoping to get a deal for Parris over the line on WSL deadline day, in what would be a major statement of intent ahead of the new season.

According to Garry, “Parris has turned down a number of offers from other clubs and Brighton, whose opening WSL fixture of the season is at home to one of her former clubs Everton on 21 September, are now the favourites to secure her signature on Friday, the Women’s Super League’s transfer deadline day.”

“Parris would be a marquee signing for Brighton, who finished ninth in the WSL last term and have publicly set out their aims to become a top-four women’s team.”

Brighton have already secured the services of ex-Chelsea star Fran Kirby and her former teammate at Stamford Bridge Jelena Cankovic.

Earlier this summer, United triggered a one-year extension on Parris’ contract to keep her at the club until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Due to this, the Seagulls will need to pay a transfer fee to land the 71-times capped England international.

Parris has been with United since 2022.

She began her career at Everton and has previously played for Manchester City, Lyon and Arsenal. In 2019, Parris was named the Football Writers’ Association’s women’s footballer of the year.

The 30-year-old was also part of the England squad that triumphed at Euro 2022.

If Parris ends up departing United, her exit would represent a big loss for Marc Skinner.

The forward was the Reds’ top scorer last term with eight top-flight goals to her name. She managed 16 goals and two assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.
