Broady’s Wimbledon dreams dashed again

Liam Broady has been knocked out of Wimbledon after receiving the all-clear to take part following a freak concussion after fearing he would miss the Championships.

The British No.6 ,who made the third round beating highly-rated Norwegian Casper Ruud last year, took a fortnight off after accidently bashing his head on his open car bonnet and suffering a migraine and dizziness.

But he suffered again on the opening day of this year’s Championships.

He lost 6-2 4-6 6-3 6-2 against Dutch ace Botic van de Zandschulp, the world No.97, to miss out on a second-round encounter with Ugo Humbert, the 16th seed from France.

It meant he had missed out on a hat-trick of successive appearances in the last 32.

Broady, 30, had said: “It has been the most frustrating six months of my life. I was worried I would miss Wimbledon. It (the accident) was the last week of ankle rehab.”
