After a Cinderella-like run at the end of his rookie season, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy proved he wasn’t a fluke after a career year during the 2023 NFL season.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense has been widely regarded as a quarterback-friendly system because of it’s dominant run game and easy reads in the passing game, and Purdy took full advantage of it.

With a full training camp under his belt as San Francisco’s No. 1 option, Purdy hit the ground running in his second year as he showed off with incredibly accurate passes and solid reads.

He also proved he could help lead a team back from a deficit as he led San Francisco to some thrilling victories both in the regular season and the postseason.

It’s hard to imagine that the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft would become a star, but Purdy’s shown he belongs and is poised for another strong year heading into the 2024 campaign.

To quantify how good Purdy was throwing deep, he was given a near-perfect passion grade on balls thrown at least 20 yards downfield via Jim Wyman of PFF.

“Brock Purdy’s deep ball earned him a 99.9 passing grade: On balls targeted 20 or more yards downfield, Purdy completed 30-of-53 passes for 956 yards, 11 touchdowns and only one interception,” Wyman wrote.

It’s an impressive stat especially considering who is right behind Purdy on the list.

Purdy managed to edge out star quarterbacks like Matthew Stafford, C.J. Stroud, and Dak Prescott who all had strong years last season.

The 49ers star had to endure some disrespect from analysts and fans alike, but he had the last laugh.
