Following injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo last season, the San Francisco 49ers were forced to turn to seventh-round rookie Brock Purdy as their starting quarterback.
Well, Purdy still hasn’t given up the starting job since then, and this season, he has the 49ers one game away from winning the franchise it’s sixth Super Bowl trophy.
San Francisco’s current starting quarterback has had plenty of doubters since he took over under center for the team in 2022.
But proving people wrong is something that Purdy has been doing ever since his high school football career.
Recently, his high school football coach, Preston Jones, spoke to TMZ and shared some of his thoughts on the young quarterback constantly getting passed over by multiple teams and colleges over the years (via TMZ.com)
“There’s a lot of guys that missed on him and they’re gonna regret this one day. I like to laugh at those guys now,” Jones said.

Purdy was the very last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and now he’s incredibly close to winning a Super Bowl ring in just his second season in the league.
The NFL hasn’t really seen anything like this ever since Tom Brady got an opportunity to start for the New England Patriots in 2001 after he was selected in the sixth round of the 2000 draft.
This isn’t to say that Purdy is the second coming of Brady, but there are certainly a lot of similarities between the two, at least so far.
Purdy will attempt to lead his team to a Super Bowl win next Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.
