The Lionesses Claim 3-0 Victory Over the Matildas in Friendly Match
In an international friendly, the Lionesses triumphed over the Matildas with a convincing score of 3-0. The goals were scored by Aggie Beever-Jones, Lucy Bronze, who celebrated her birthday, and Georgia Stanway.
Lucy Bronze, a defender for Chelsea and England, has made history by becoming the first player to earn eight selections for the FIFPRO Women’s World 11, as announced in the latest player-voted awards. This accolade comes after over 6,000 professional female footballers participated in the global voting process to choose their team of the year.
Bronze’s achievement surpasses the previous record set by Wendie Renard of France, who had seven appearances. For the first time in the awards, two African players were included: Barbra Banda from the Orlando Pride (Zambia), who made her second appearance, and Ghizlane Chebbak from Al Hilal (Morocco), who made her debut.
Following their consecutive title win at the Euros in July, England is the most represented nation in the 2024-25 lineup with six selections from the Lionesses.
In other women’s soccer news, Arsenal secured a significant win against Leicester with a brace from Stina Blackstenius. Chelsea continues to maintain an unbeaten streak, while Manchester City claimed victory over West Ham.
Hannah Hampton, Chelsea goalkeeper, and forward Chloe Kelly are newcomers to the World 11, while notable selections include Millie Bright, Leah Williamson, and Alessia Russo. Ona Batlle from Spain also makes her first appearance in the coveted lineup.
Former Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas and current holder Aitana Bonmatí have retained their places, although Mariona Caldentey, a runner-up in this year’s Ballon d’Or, missed out on the shortlist.
