After making a deal with the Chicago Bears to acquire the No. 1 in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers had to choose between four promising young quarterbacks coming out of the college game, with all four having the potential to be franchise players and precisely what the team needed to break out of their funk.
Even though CJ Stroud ended up being the best of the four and an instant success for the Houston Texans last season, the Panthers chose to go with Alabama star Bryce Young and proceeded to have another disappointing season, finishing with the worst record in the NFL at 2-15.
There’s probably some regret on the Panthers’ part taking Young over Stroud, who was clearly the more NFL-ready quarterback, but the fact of the matter is that the team still has a promising player to develop and hopefully become the new face of the franchise in the post-Cam Newton era.
In an interview with Newton ahead of the ESPYs in Los Angeles, California, Young talked about what he learned last season with the Panthers that he didn’t know before coming into the NFL.
“Movement…and how much things are changing,” Young said.

With one year in the books, Young will have a lot more learning to do moving forward as the pressure will only start to mount more for the soon-to-be 23-year-old quarterback entering his sophomore season with the Panthers.
It’ll be interesting to see if Young is able to make that leap in year two in Carolina and if that results in the Panthers taking another step closer to being a force to be reckoned with in the NFC.
