Ruoning Yin expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support from the crowd during the 2024 Buick LPGA Shanghai tournament. She delivered a remarkable performance that left the audience in awe.
The 22-year-old golfer from Shanghai, China, clinched victory at her hometown event held at Qizhong Garden Golf Club. Yin completed the weekend with impressive rounds of 63-64, finishing 25 under par and winning by a margin of six shots. This triumph marked Yin’s fourth LPGA title, earning her $350,000 in prize money.
Reflecting on her victory, Yin remarked, “It’s phenomenal to be able to do that. It’s a pleasant week to win at home in front of all the family and friends.”
Despite starting eight shots behind the leader Sei Young Kim after the first round, Yin steadily closed the gap over the following days. She trailed by four shots after the second round and entered the final round just one shot behind. On Sunday, Yin showcased her dominance and secured her second win of the 2024 season.
Speaking about her performance, Yin shared, “I think I’m just really happy that I put on a show and that everybody enjoys it.”
Following her victory, Yin revealed that she had a conversation with her coach in Los Angeles after the opening round to address some tee-off issues. By finding the fairway consistently in the subsequent rounds, Yin was able to leverage her exceptional iron play.
Sei Young Kim and Mao Saigo finished tied for second place at 19 under, while Yealimi Noh secured the fourth position at 18 under.
When asked how winning the Buick LPGA Shanghai compared to her major victory at the KPMG Women’s PGA last year, Yin expressed her love for both accomplishments. She emphasized her joy in winning major tournaments and the significance of winning in front of her home crowd.
