The Bulls have unveiled their plans for the Ring of Honor to celebrate the achievements of past players, coaches, and front office staff, but how frosty will things be between Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen?
MJ, Pippen, Dennis Rodman and Phil Jackson are unsurprisingly some of the names that will be recognized for their greatness, as the Bulls are set to hold a private gala on January 11 and a Ring of Honor game on January 12.
Hall-of-Famer Charles Barkley couldn’t help but point out how awkward things could get at the above events, especially considering the massive beef going on between MJ and Pippen.
“You know what, I gotta go,” Barkley joked on The Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday. “I’m just going to sit back in the corner and stare … please don’t have it a night I’ve got to work. Because I want to go there and be a fly on the wall.”
Things have been tense between Jordan and Scottie the last few years, which began with the release of The Last Dance in 2020.
Pippen thought that the documentary didn’t properly acknowledge his contribution to the Chicago’s epic championship run in the 90s.
In May of this year, Pippen said that MJ was a “horrible player” and to top it all off, MJ’s son is now planning on marrying Pippen’s ex-wife Larsa- who he was married to for 19 years.
“I’m going to have to go to Chicago that day just to see it,” Barkley added. “You talk about weirdest, uncomfortable … uncomfortable won’t do it justice.”
For his part, Rodman said recently that he thinks MJ and Pippen can still patch things up, despite all the bad blood.
The Ring of Honor class will have new inductees every two years and players meet various criteria, including having spent at least three seasons with the Bulls and being retired for at least three years, according to NBC Sports Chicago’s K.C Johnson.
