Butorac Appointed Tournament Director for the US Open

On November 17, 2025, the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) made a significant announcement regarding the leadership of the US Open, revealing that Eric Butorac will take over as tournament director, succeeding Stacey Allaster. Butorac, previously the USTA’s senior director of player relations and business development, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having played professionally for 14 years where he achieved a top 20 ranking in ATP doubles.

Butorac has played a notable role within the USTA since joining the organization in 2016, including serving as tournament director for the newly launched mixed doubles event during the US Open earlier this year. His leadership has been credited with enhancing the US Open experience for both players and fans alike. “This is, in many ways, a dream come true and the culmination of my life and career in tennis,” Butorac remarked on his new position.

Brian Vahaly, interim co-CEO of the USTA, expressed confidence in Butorac’s capabilities, stating that his leadership, passion, and insights will be pivotal as the tournament continues to evolve.

Stacey Allaster, who has been at the helm of the US Open since 2020, made history as the first woman to serve as tournament director in the event’s long-standing history, which dates back to 1881. She will remain with the USTA as chief executive of professional tennis until May, after which she will transition to an advisory position. Allaster previously held the role of chairman and CEO of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), contributing to her extensive experience in the sport.

This leadership change signals a new era for the US Open as it aims to build on its legacy and further enhance the tournament’s prestige on the global stage.
